Older Peoples Social Clubs receive new equipment thanks to CPG Charitable Trust donation

West Marsh Development Trust has been awarded £480 from the Care Plus Group Charitable Trust, to purchase new games equipment for their popular Older People’s social clubs.

The Older People’s group meets every Tuesday morning from 10am to 12noon and each week the group takes part in a physical activity, alternating between indoor curling and indoor bowls. The funds will go towards purchasing a New Age Kurling bundle, which includes a full Kurling set, pushers, house target and a ramp.

The bundle will replace their current set, which has begun to show wear and tear after weekly use. The new equipment will give organisers the opportunity to vary the style of New Age Kurling games to bring new levels of enjoyment to the session.

Neil Barber, Community Worker at West Marsh Development Trust, said: “Thank you to the Care Plus Group Charitable Trust for the generous donation. The social club is attended regularly by around 25 older members of the community. The New Age Kurling activities can be enjoyed by all that attend, including wheelchair bound attendees as the Trust has a slider unit so the individual can bowl from a sitting down position.

“This means people with disabilities and the more able-bodied members of the group can play with or against each other on an equal level. The sport does not require any physical fitness to play, but exercises muscles that those older members taking part would not usually use.”

Neil Cartwright, Trustee of Care Plus Group Charitable Trust, said: “As a charity we exist to support individuals or groups with funds or equipment that will benefit the health and wellbeing of community members across North East Lincolnshire. The work at West Marsh Development Trust and their vision matches that of the Trust and we’re delighted to have been able to support them to purchase new equipment to benefit their community.”

Since its inception, the Care Plus Group Charitable Trust has provided more than £93,000 to over 90 community projects across North East Lincolnshire.
