Donation used to service and repair adapted bikes for Adult Learning Disability Service

Back in May 2022, the Adult Learning Disability Service (ALDS) at Care Plus Group were awarded £2,500 from the CPG Charitable Trust to service and repair specialist bikes for their weekly adapted sports sessions promoting health and wellbeing for people with a learning and/or physical disability.

Following the Covid pandemic, ALDS could not safely facilitate the return of the weekly adapted sports session held at Grimsby Leisure Centre for over two years. During this session a fleet of adapted cycles are used to support activity and promote health and wellbeing for people with a learning and/or physical disability.

The session has always been very popular, seeing over 30 people with varying disabilities attend and take part in healthy and safe activities every Wednesday.

ALDS had planned to start the sessions back up in June 2022, however due to lack of use for over two years, the bikes require attention to fix flat tyres, brakes and generally service those that are specialist and carry the weight of a person, such as the wheelchair loader and front loading bikes.

The funding will pay for servicing and repairs with various companies depending on the make and model of each bike, and ongoing maintenance and repair costs. From the 15 bikes in the fleet, there were 8 requiring attention before they could be used.

The serving of the bikes will benefit any person who wishes to attend the open Disability Sports session held at Grimsby Leisure Centre every Wednesday morning, and the clients who attend the day services provision on Cromwell Road.
